  • Theory Into Practice: Landscape Ecology Being Used to Conserve Habitats and Species

The field trip visited the Great Fen Project and Wicken Fen. These areas are recreating wetland landscapes in the Fenland of East Anglia near to Cambridge. They are part of the largest wetland restoration in Europe. Each is being managed in a different way to create habitats over the next one hundred years, but hopefully faster than this!

The YouTube video below was discussed during the visit to Wicken Fen. It was filmed at Priory Farm in Burwell, Cambridgeshire in 1947. It shows the draining and later harvesting of crops of Adventurers Fen, now part of the restoration project at Wicken Fen.
